Celebrating Twenty-Five Years of the Portuguese Studies Review (Conference Held on 26-27 October 2017, Lady Eaton College, Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario)
October 24, 2017
Distinguished Colleagues, Guests, and Visitors:
It is a great honour to welcome you to Trent and a very special conference celebrating “Twenty-Years of the Portuguese Studies Review.” I regret that I cannot be there with you. In honour of Portugal, I would of course, like to partake in a way that would, somewhere along the way, be accompanied by a bottle of Madeira (“Sercial” if I am remembering correctly), and with the “Pastéis de Belém.”
The food for thought that your conference will provide looks equally promising. I would like to extend special congratulations to Professor Douglas Wheeler, the Founding Editor of the Portuguese Studies Review and personally thank Professors Ivana and Martin Elbl for making the Review a key element of Trent’s own history. Thanks as well to Hannah Laginski for sharing a student’s perspective.
I wish you all a wonderful conference that will set the stage for many more decades of success for the Portuguese Studies Review.
